With a new studio set-up comes a new picture of space on the website and some really interesting news. Things like - THARN is totally sold out & has been for ages, Fall Of Efrafa has now also split up... they are a great band and real good friends so it was sad to see them go. They played for the last time up the road from us & we recorded it... that recording may surface at some point on here, who knows.

Luke & I have both been undertaking a number of projects whilst we've been quiet on this here website. These aren't limited to but include finishing off the last Hot Damn recordings and the last North Pole recordings that we did, both of which will see a release before the end of the year.

Paper Aeroplane has also got a number of projects lined up that we're keen to crack on with.. mainly based around the power of 10. We're hoping at some point soon a final version of the Swimming Pool film that Paper Aeroplane did the soundtrack for will turn up... for now though here is the final version of the audio -

I hadn’t realised it had been so long since a post had been made on here, nearly half a year!

I just uploaded the first completed song of my solo venture. It seemed apt to feature it here because it was done in my bedroom. More will follow soon; as I’ve just found a better way of setting up my recording stuff (in a drawer).

Initially it was meant to have me singing vocals on it but I found the first attempt so shocking to listen back to I deleted two hours worth of takes and tried to pretend it had never happened...

Aurelien kindly reviewed Tharn for a blog he writes for, W-Fenec. I fed it through google translator and this is what was said -

Intense, refined and melodic, powerful, angry and pest, the "Dominion Theology" soothes, bristles and finally we embarked in a moving but painful sensory journey through limbo of post-hardcore.

Soooo... you know a while ago we had that thing, putting up songs by that band Luke & I did years ago, then people could order it and we'd make all the CD's and stuff and it'd be great. Well, 8 months later and we've finally made the CD's. It's great. It's kinda weird doing all this so long after we actually wrote and recorded this stuff, but i'm still really proud of the songs and we always wanted to do something with it... So, what we've done is make 20 of the CD's, a bunch of them have already gone but the rest we've stuck up in our shop for sale... They're £4 all in, wherever you are. We've also put it up as a download, so chuck yourselves in.

I just put up the download for Hot Damn's - Let's do something cheap and superficial 7" for easy access for all. We still have a bunch of 7" left to buy.
The band played their last show a month or so ago, it was a good time. It was with Algernon Cadwallader & Teenage Cool Kids, who were both stellar.
We're currently in the process of recording the last songs we wrote as a band for posterity. We're doing this in our new headquarters and it's going swimmingly so far. We're planning some kind of limited release for these songs, but we currently have no idea what this will be...

Hot Damn were played on wednesday evening by the mighty Steve Lamacq on 6 music. This excites me especially because I personally grew up listening to the Evening Session, Mark & Lard, John Peel... many an hour meant to be doing homework/revision were spent drawing and furiously writing down names of bands that would then take me an age to find anything by them... Anyway, it was very nice of him indeed.

If you're that way inclined you can listen to it happen all over again here it's right at the end of the show.

I am sparticles recorded these songs which you can now hear on their site (again, mouse on name) and the plan is that if you like them then you paypal £4 to athomemusic@gmail.com and you will receive a lovingly handmade one-off edition of the EP shortly afterwards. These will be the only copies made of the EP, after that we'll put it up so you can download it. i mean why the hell not.

Merry Christmas from At Home

Thankfully Rich went to the effort of providing us with a wonky (in a good way) Christmas Tree dutifully adorned with what Parents with better taste have donated to be stored in our loft for all but 2 weeks a year. We also have a healthy (and also wonky) tree from last year planted in the garden; we’ll have a Norwegian pine forest before you know it. Also, isn’t it amazing how carefully considered works of art can be quickly improved merely with the addition of a tinseled border?

We almost got our neighborly Christmas cards out in time this year, but we were pipped to the post at the last minute and therefore made to look like we’d forgotten all their names from last year and were just waiting for a reminder before sending our card. Damn.

Well, even if you aren’t busily decorating a tree, which under normal circumstances you would never contemplate installing next to your TV for fear of increased fire risks or getting pine needles in your socks, we hope you enjoy a relaxing and fruitful ‘Holiday’ period.

Paper Aeroplane / Fall of Efrafa

We have some pretty special news, the much talked about Fall of Efrafa remix (now reimagining!) by Paper Aeroplane is now finished! Using the song, 'Dominion Theology' from their album Elil we dismantled it and then put it back together in a completely different form. The end result is the song, 'Tharn".

Luke and I have been working on this for a while now... we probably started discussing it about a year ago between ourselves and the band and it's gone through various different forms and guises in that time. We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into when we started but it's far outstripped any expectations we originally had. The last few weeks we've been working on it pretty solidly in any spare time that has come our way and on Sunday, after spending the entire weekend indoors, we finished it. It was a relief to say the least. We're both really proud of it and are extremely grateful for our friends in Fall of Efrafa for letting us take apart and completely change one of their songs.

The really, really good news is though that all our hard work will not be in vain as it is being released in August by Tadpole records in Brighton and Sound Devastation in Sheffield. It's going to be a one-sided 12" with a screen-printed b-side... it's going to look real nice indeed. To top it all off there's going to be a release party on the 9th of August at the Cowley Club in Brighton with Fall of Efrafa, Hot Damn and Wolf of 359.

Uh, here are a few things that you might be interested in...

1) Hot Damn were mentioned on 6 Music the other day in a 'bands to look out for' segment apparently, and apparently they're not a real band... screw you Tom Robinson... Yeah, you better 'look out for that band' as they will find you and you will eat their noise-fist.

so, i think it was tuesday's show if you can be arsed to listen to it.

2) There is an mp3 of an I Am Sparticles song on the Bleeding Hearts Club myspace page, it's probably called something like, "oh no! I just dropped the radon..." It was performed just before Christmas at the Albert, in Brighton, and was part of their end of year show with about 9 'acts' performing. It was fun, especially getting pissed for free and only playing one song. We worked out that, that one song was worth about £30. we need to play a full show and take that shit on tour, we'll be raking it in...

Finally got the pictures of the second pressing of the Hot Damn CD up...

It is now being stocked in 2 of Brighton's finest record shops, the Punker Bunker and Edgeworld.

The HD show at the albert last friday was a lot of fun and was well enjoyed by all in the Hot Damn camp. The other bands were dead good, especially Latitudes who pretty much blew everyone away and were super nice guys to boot... what more could you ask for in a band?

730 Radio is ready to go, just a few technical issues then it'll be up and running. sweet.

I'm just listening to a band called This Town Needs Guns and despite sounding like they might have the words "brutal metallic assault" in their biography it's rather beautiful stuff in the vein of ghosts and vodka and pretty much anything kinsella related... but all rather indie-pop and not awkward at all, whatever that means, it's a good start to the morning i must say.

I also bought the new(ish) Career Suicide LP the other day after months of procrastination... Holy crap, when a record starts with this you know you're in for a treat.

Anyway, we've been slowly pottering away at some stuff our end, mainly...

+ Putting together the Paper Aeroplane CD, it's nearly all mastered and i'll be getting on to the artwork real soon.

+ a Paper Aeroplane collaboration with the majestic Fall Of Efrafa - when we know more we will let you know, but it's looking like it could be pretty special.

+ still recording the I Am Sparticles record, it's coming along... just very, very slowly.

+ planning our radio show, if we haven't already set ourselves enough to do we're going to start doing a monthly (maybe) podcast with some fine cuts from some fine bands. I'm sure it will be shambolic.

The weekend was a lot of fun, we got to see ENVY and FALL OF EFRAFA play on saturday which was frankly mindblowing. Jeez louise, Envy pretty much made me want to give up playing music. haha.
Hobfest on the sunday was pretty epic too... Luckily loads of the bands were fucking ace, and i picked up some fine, fine records for my consumption, including the Ratface CD and the Gordon Gano's Army 7".

Good stuff.

The I Am Sparticles recording is coming along slowly but nicely, hopefully it'll be done before the year is out. Home recording is fun and cheap but too often waylaid by dinner, television and sleep.

Putting together the 50 limited CD's of the Hot Damn demo this week in time for their show with Ship (or Secta) this saturday (the 20th @ the Engine Rooms in Brighton). After those 50 are gone there will be no lovely hand-made cardboard cases... Be quick or be devastated. Next week recording will commence on the first release from I Am Sparticles, which will be 5 tracks of their finest acoustic weird indie pop... Hopefully we'll have this finished and out within a couple of months. There are also plans afoot for a full band to be formed, which would be exciting stuff...

This is an acoustic recording project by Luke & Richard from Hot Damn, The Steal, The North Pole, etc... A short lived band, these songs were written and recorded around 2007. As much an experiment in uncharted territories for both of them, learning how to play their instruments & write songs together. Honest, personal lyrics about failed relationships, work, life and being beaten up. Limited to 20 copies, in a cardboard, handstamped sleeve with lyric insert.

AH004 : Paper Aeroplane / Fall OF Efrafa - 'Tharn' CD

"Tharn" is a re-imagining by Paper Aeroplane of Fall Of Efrafa's song, “Dominion Theology”. It was originally released on 300 Limited edition one sided LP’s with a screen printed B side, which sold out within a week of it's release.
This is the much anticipated CD re-press for those who missed it the first time around. CD is encased in a hand-screenprinted recycled cardboard sleeve with inserts illustrated by Alex from Fall Of Efrafa.

AH001 : Hot Damn - EP

Their first release, a 5 song EP recorded entirely by the band at home. The first pressing was a limited run of 50 CDRs with 100% hand-made spray painted sleeves. The second pressing of 200 was 80% hand-made but still extremely time consuming and good-looking. The third and forth(?) pressing is when it got silly. CD now definitely, totally, absolutely sold out.

Hot Damn, the keen instrumentalists from Brighton, create intricate and complex songs, with emphasis placed heavily on the song. They had many complimentary comparisons for their demo ep from all over the place, they're hard to pin down in sound... we'll say though if you're a fan of Pele, Tortoise, Do Make Say Think or Battles then they will be right up your street. "these songs and this band is a reflection of a moment in time for both of us. luke played guitar and piano, richard played guitar and sang. we don't do this anymore, and haven't done in a while, it served its purpose. we learnt how to play our guitars and we learnt how to write music together. we have finally finished a 5 song e.p. called "meeting point" that we recorded in our house. we're going to be hand making a limited amount of cd's for anyone that is interested."

There is no magic in such a method of finding an answer to a problem.
